Field Excursion: Tectonics and Fluvial Geomorphology at the Eastern Margin of Tibetan Plateau: starting from Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province, the excursion will take attendees up to 3000-4000 m (by van/on foot) to Minjiang (one major tributary of Yangtze) Plateau, where large-scale alluvial fans, platforms, incised valleys, neo-tectonic activities and deforestation can be observed. Also of interest is the world natural heritage valley 鈥淛iu-Zhai-Gou鈥?
Note: The Field Excursion will be run in conjunction with the Second IAG Yangtze Fluvial Conference to be held during June 24-July 2, 2004, Shanghai. A tourism cruise through Three-gorge can be arranged upon request.
Schedule: June 25 Afternoon: Registration and Presentation, Evening: Ice-breaking Reception (6:30 pm); June 26 Day time: Presentation, Evening: Core members business meeting; June 27 Morning: Poster presentation; Afternoon: Workshop; Evening: Flight to Chengdu (for excursion)/Chongqing (for Three-gorge); June 28-July 1 Field Excursion; July 1 Return to Shanghai; or departure from Chengdu (after excursion)/Yichang (after Three-gorge);
Costs/financials/funding: Registration is free for all participants. Accommodation will be covered (highly likely) by funding from NSFC and Tongji University. Limited funding for travel (international air fare) is available for invited speakers and core-members, and for participants from developing countries. Estimation of costs of Field Excursion is around US$800 (flights between Shanghai and Chengdu, or Shanghai-Chongqing, plus accommodation and transportation). Precise estimation of costs depends on the number of participants and negotiation with Travel Agency. Fees will be charged on cost basis.
Accommodation: All participants will be housed individually in Magnolia Hotel (three-star), except on special request. In field, you may be asked to share with colleagues. Conference venue is on Tongji University campus, which is 10 minutes walk from the hotel.
Abstract: Abstracts should be emailed to the conference Secretariat (Hongbo Zheng) no later than May 15, 2004. All abstracts are not to exceed two A4 pages, and should include names, affiliations and corresponding addresses of authors. Diagrams are acceptable.
