Second IAG Yangtze Fluvial Conference June 24-July 2, 2004, Shanghai, China First Circular and Call for Abstracts Organizer East China Normal University International Association of Geomorphologists Working Group on Large Rivers
Co-organizer China Sedimentological Association APN/IGCP-475 project
Background This follows the very successful Yangtze Fluvial Conference organized by the East China Normal University and the IAG Working Group on Large Rivers in October-November 1999 that resulted in the publication of two special issues of the journal Geomorphology in 2001 and 2002. The IAG Working Group on Large Rivers has also organized other meetings since its inception to maintain the research interest and exchange of information on large rivers.
The Yangtze, an exceptionally important river for China, plays a crucial role in landform evolution, transfer of water and sediment from the interior to the coast, and supply of nutrients to the ocean. Its fascinating form and behavior are intricately linked with the monsoon system of climate and large-scale regional tectonics. It is also an excellent example of the interaction between human and nature as reflected in basin land use, water utilization, and large-scale engineering structures on the river.
This conference provides a wonderful opportunity for the diffusion of knowledge regarding large rivers of the world (research results from any river are welcome) and for traveling along a part of the Yangtze Plateau. We sincerely invite you participate this conference, bringing your idea from your river to share with others. Your participation is essential. Post-conference publication (special issue on Geomorphology) is planned.
